IB Diploma Programme at MHG

The IB Diploma Programme (DP) is an academically challenging and rigorous two-year course with international examinations that prepares students, aged 16 to 19, for success at university and life beyond. By engaging with a range of subjects, students experience a comprehensive education that encourages them to see connections between different academic areas. Throughout the two years, DP students develop skills across wide-ranging approaches to learning for critical and creative thinking, self-management, collaboration, independent research, and communication. MHG has been authorized to deliver the Diploma Programme since September 2011.

The DP curriculum is made up of six subject groups and the DP core. The three core elements are:

Students are required to choose one subject from each of the 6 subject groups, although they can choose a second subject from groups 1, 3 and 4 instead of a group 6 subject. Students are expected to study three subjects at Higher Level (HL) and three at Standard Level (SL).

Assessment
At the end of the programme, students take international written examinations, which are marked by external IB examiners. They also complete internal assessments in the school, which are either initially marked by teachers and then moderated by external moderators, or sent directly to external examiners. Students can earn scores of 1 (lowest) to 7 (highest) on IB examinations, which are taken in May. The IB diploma is awarded to students who gain at least 24 points.
